Vegan restaurant in Camden

"The Black Heart" in London is a unique pub-restaurant that has established itself in the vibrant neighborhood of Camden as a staple of the alternative music and culinary scene. It is much more than just a traditional pub – it combines a rock atmosphere with a focus on heavy metal culture while offering a surprisingly versatile culinary experience. The venue is particularly known for its connection to the music scene, regularly hosting live performances by punk, rock, and metal bands in an intimate upstairs event space. This blend of music, food, and an unconventional atmosphere makes it a popular meeting spot for music fans, subculture enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a break from the typical London pub experience.

Live music events London

Culinarily, "The Black Heart" has made a name for itself in recent years through its collaboration with LD’s Kitchen, which has transformed the restaurant into a hotspot for vegan cuisine. The Vegan Sunday Roast is especially highlighted, featuring a lavish dish of “Roast Pork Tofu Belly & Crackling,” served with crispy potatoes, spicy mustard leeks, and vegan Yorkshire puddings – a delight that impresses even non-vegans. The Southern Fried Chicken, a vegan version with perfectly seasoned batter and a juicy texture, is often praised as outstanding, showcasing the kitchen's creativity. On Saturdays, the brunch offerings entice with dishes like vegan pancakes or a hearty breakfast burger, all made with fresh ingredients and homemade sauces. The dishes are not only a taste sensation but also visually appealing, making them popular among social media-savvy guests.

Heavy metal pub with vegan food

The atmosphere of "The Black Heart" is heavily influenced by its musical identity. The interior is dark and rustic, with a touch of “grimy” charm that perfectly matches the rock and metal aesthetic. The walls are often decorated with posters of bands and events, and the lighting creates a cozy, albeit slightly dark, ambiance. The bar is located on the ground floor, offering an impressive selection of craft beers and real ales, while the upstairs area serves as a venue for concerts – small, intimate, and loud, just as fans of smaller venues love it. The service is friendly and down-to-earth, with staff often displaying a genuine passion for music and the food offered. Especially on weekends, when the vegan roasts and brunches are served, there’s a relaxed yet lively vibe underscored by the music in the background.

"The Black Heart" stands out for its versatility: it serves as both a pub for a relaxed drink, a restaurant for innovative vegan cuisine, and a venue for live music. It appeals to a wide audience, from families enjoying Sunday roasts to music lovers attending concerts. The operators emphasize inclusivity and sustainability, as demonstrated by their decision to offer only vegan dishes and to avoid discriminatory products. The option to order via an app also makes visiting straightforward and contemporary.

Cool spot in Camden. But music 🎶 Playlist gets very repetitive once they staff set the songs on their choice. A better Playlist and mix up of bands from all decades of the 70s, 80s, 90, 2000s should be honored 🎖

Cool pub with vegan food just off the main street in Camden. Huge selection of beers on tap and non alcohol beers too. Food options all vegan but quite focused on fake meat and fake cheese which is not my thing - would be nice to have more vegetable options. Service great.

Friendly, helpful staff and great drinks! Absinthe Colada was not on my bingo card but it was totally yummy! They play great music but it can get a little loud so bring ear protectors if you have sensitive ears.

A bit crowded. Ordered wine and the glasses were so stained, also with lipstick marks on one. Waited about 1h for the food because of some misunderstanding in the kitchen or between waiters. Food was decent and at least got the drinks (2 wine glasses no extras from them) for free but still…..

One of our stops on our pub crawl through the Camden area and this place had great vibes. Would only recommend it if you're into metal/rock but our group thought it was pretty awesome. We ordered some premixed shots and went on our way, but I could definitely see myself having more drinks here if we had more time!

We went for a Sunday roast which was lovely. It's great to not have to be the one cooking it! We're vegan and haven't ever eaten meat so the chicken skin was an unusual experience for the 8 year old (would suggest getting the fried chicken for others in similar boats). I enjoyed the "pork" and it wasn't salty which I have heard pork can be. The sides were fabulous and it was lovely to have a Yorkshire pudding! Great service and look forward to coming back.

What an atmosphere. Metalheads paradise. Excellent food. Veg friendly and dog friendly. And gig or dance space on the 1st floor. Won't mind coming back. Make sure to wear something dark - just to fit in. 🤘🤘
